Aida
Weathervane Theater - Whitefield, NH

Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida was played in the Summer of 2005 at the Weathervane Theater.  Directed by John Watson Stewart, the show was played with a minimal set, allowing the actors and the costumes to be more or less showcased in front of it.  The director asked me to make my designs recall the original broadway production, but allowed me the freedom to design each costume as I saw fit.  I chose to mainly follow a traditional egyptian look, but simplyfied it and added modern elements where I could.  The mixture of modern was stronger in egypt, but less obvious in Nubia.  For the most part, the Egyptians had a very straight, simple, pure look, unencumbered by prints or patterns.  The Nubians, however, were print heavy, with as much concentration as possible on dark and rich colors.

The following photos are from the photocall for the show, toward the end of the run.  The last few shots are of my design renderings for comparison.
